A briefing was held to launch the Open International Competition

On April 1, on the eve of the first day of the Ramadan holy month, Tatmedia Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications was held a briefing concerning the start of the Open International Competition for the Development of Concept Design of the ‎Cathedral Mosque of Kazan and Surrounding Area‎.

The laying of the first stone is scheduled for May 2022 as part of the events dedicated to the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria. The initiative to build the main Cathedral Mosque in Kazan with a capacity of at least 10,000 visitors was performed by the Muslim community of Tatarstan, represented by the Muslim Spiritual Directorate of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The main goal of the competition is to select and approve the optimalConcept Design of the Cathedral Mosque. It allows creating a new site of religion on the banks of the Kazanka River, providing residents and guests of the city with the opportunity to visit, sightseeing and perform religious rites.

The briefing was attended by:

– Gafarov Shamil Khamitovich – Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan – Head of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan;

– Gafarov Rustem Gilfanovich – Head of the Executive Committee of the Municipal Formation of the city of Kazan;

– Kamil hazrat Samigullin – Chairman of the Centralized Religious Organization – MuslimSpiritual Board of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mufti;

– Rakhimov Ilnur Suleimanovich – Executive Director of the Republican Fund for the Promotion of the Spiritual and Moral Development of the Society “Igelek-Dobrota”;

– Aidarova Galina Nikolaevna – Doctor of Architecture, Professor of the Theory and Practice of Architecture Department of the Institute of Architecture and Design of the Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering.

The participants of the meeting noted the significance of this long-awaited event, emphasized the importance, both at the republican and all-Russian level, gave detailed explanations to questions regarding the artistic solution, location, construction time and name of the mosque.

What is known for today is the construction of the mosque will begin in 2022.
